Get Me Organic! Truth About GMOs – Genetically Modified Organisms

Genetically modified organisms are taking over the world. All over the globe people are experiencing new diseases and allergies in unprecedented proportions. The culprit may be what you are eating...

Is All Food Good Food? One of the most essential ways to survive is to eat. So should you just shove anything down your throat and call it good? I’m of the mindset that one should prepare in advance for the days of challenge that might come and one of those ways to prepare is to be a good steward of your body NOW, ensuring that you are fit and have a buffer if you need to consume some unmentionables.

Frankenfoods, muah ha ha! Ever watch a Sci-Fi flick in the good ol’ days and think how very strange it would be if that *really* happened? Of course, it never would…that is the thrill of the genre of science fiction: creating worlds that scintillate and blow our minds to imagine and then comforting ourselves that it never really could happen. Or could it? Today in science, the unthinkable is taking place and we are eating it. Different species are being mixed with one another in the name of advancement, creating what has been dubbed, Frankenfoods, which our bodies simply do not recognize as foods. I highly recommend the movie ‘Genetic Roulette’ as an excellent 1.5 hour primer on GMOs and the threat that they pose for the survival of human beings. You’ll see that it’s not just about us, but the generations we are procreating, too. GMOs affect babies in utero and for the rest of their lives!

Back to the Beginning. If you are a Christian as I am, the problem is clear. God made all of His creation according to “kinds”, each with their own type of DNA. Plants of any variety are plants – the same “kind.” Cross a plant with a spider (as they have done with GMO corn) and you are crossing two different “kinds” and DNA structures, something God never intended to happen and indeed, forbade. What results is something that God’s ultimate creation, mankind, cannot recognize or utilize. Why do you think soy allergies burgeoned right after GMO soy hit the market? And every other allergy running rampant can be traced back to this foundational problem of tampering with DNA.

The Reality. I am one of many victims. I live with this and it makes me MAD! I have to scour labels and let me tell you – there are hidden forms of GMOs in fancy names that you need to learn. Did you know propylene glycol is a form of corn? Corn is in almost everything in one form or another and unless a product is marked NON-GMO, you can be sure it’s the kind that will make your stomach blow up as mine did when I ate a name brand of popcorn. My stomach did what they designed the corn to do to the stomachs of bugs. Seriously. I thought I was going to die.

The Big Six The big GMO crops to watch for presently are wheat, soy, corn, cottonseed, canola and even rice is being toyed with now. Spend the extra money to purchase local, organic foods any time you can. Ask suppliers where your food comes from and how it is raised/fed. Look for the Non-GMO Project label on corn chips and cereals and anything that contains a potentially modified grain. A movie to watch that will get your fists balled up and show you the money road behind this practice is Food, Inc. Here’s a quick page of facts about Monsanto, one of the giants is out to kill you.

So , quick survival tip of the day... Educate yourself about what you’re putting in your body! It’s literally a matter of life and death!

FOOTNOTE: 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer. (1 Timothy 4:4-5 ESV) I don’t look to food to save me, but I do seek God for wisdom and provision and leave the rest to Him. There’s a point where you just have to rest and trust. Call me a weirdo if you like, but when my stomach was blown up by that corn and we could not have afforded for me to go to a hospital, I was desperate and I prayed. The above verse spoke volumes to me and the next food I ate (I hadn’t been able to eat anything for days because it hurt so badly) I spoke to God and told Him I was desperate for His help, that I received the food in front of me with a heart full of gratitude for Him having provided it and that I needed Him to walk out this journey of eating with me, that I would remain dependent on Him to make the food I ate good for me. Literally, with that meal, my stomach was well and has been since as I remember Who to thank and depend upon for my ultimate wellbeing. I do the best I can with what He gives me and leave the rest to Him. These are weird and scary times we live in and we can’t get caught up in a panic, but need to educate ourselves calmly and act according to what we learn, resting and trusting that God rules over it all.
