This training is hosted in the Beautiful Endless Mountains of Wellsboro Pennsylvania. Wellsboro is a rural town and is a hub of Wilderness Tourism and Outdoor Sports in the Northeastern USA. Our training location is perfectly situated within a 4 to 5 hour drive of major metropolitan hubs like: Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Rochester, Cleveland, Toronto, and New York City. Many of our students leave in the morning and make the drive to Wellsboro prior to our 1:00 PM start time. And when the training is finished, most who attend can make it home before dark.

However, we often have students who fly in from further locations – like Canada, Florida and California. If you choose to fly we recommend that you fly to Elmira / Corning Regional Airport (which is approximately a 1 hour drive from our location in Wellsboro.

I am very excited about your training class, however, I just can not make it to this event on this short notice. Will you be planning others?

    • Carin

Sorry you won’t make it. There’s always the possibility of future trainings but we have nothing planned at this point.

    • Michael, We just scheduled another one for August 27th. Hope to see you there.

  • John

Will participants be given goodie bags with survival gear? It would be great for companies to sponsor this event and provide nice giveaways (especially since it will be recorded).

    • Carin

No sponsors, per se, this time around but we will be giving a complimentary Schrade SCHF-9 knife for each participant.

  • Alan Heflich

Will need a closer to Arizona site as I loose 2 days just traveling.

  • Nathan Gruna

    Hi David,
A bit about me: I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I was raised as an avid outdoorsman. And only became more and more enthralled with different outdoor activities that had a 50/50 chance of needing to rely upon my outdoors survival skills.

However, I was “diagnosed” with ailments that, when combined, led to me becoming disabled while I was still in my mid 20’s.
That also means that I live on my fixed income from disability, thus meaning that I live on a really tight shoestring budget…
So, unfortunately I will be unable to attend the 3-day training course(s). 🙁

And I’ve been yearning to go somewhere this summer, to satisfy at least get some of those old feelings that’ve reignited!!!

I was hoping that we could do a little back & forth correspondence (emails or however you prefer); so that I could hopefully explain a bit more about my past experiences (Honestly, I actually “beat-up” a wild alligator while I spent 3 weeks solo camping in the bayou’s of Louisana… So I’m no neophyte!), and about my current and/or future physical limitations.

The reason I ask is so I can safely go as “aú natúrel”(sic?) (not exactly car-camping, but not a 6hr hike to & from my vehicle either).
And since I subscribe to your email Newsletter, I figured that I’d ask you for your advice concerning my next camping trip because you’re a professional!

Is there ANY chance that you’d be willing to:
1.) help personalize a safety program for my trip; and,
2.) possibly share (email) me some of the topics that you go over in your survival course (email the big bullet points & such)???

I truly wish that I could attend your program, and who knows, maybe a few years down the line!?!?!

    Thanks so much,
I look forward to your reply.

    Nathan Gruna

PS: it’d be great if we could correspond in a more personal fashion than posting “comments” on a blog/forum. (So I don’t need to plaster the web with all my personal issues.)

    • Carin

Hey there, Nathan! This is Carin, David’s wife. I do all his website correspondence for him and read him your comment this morning. It is very exciting that you are planning some kind of summer adventure and we wish you the best in your planning of it. I expect there is someone in your sphere who would be way better qualified to help you with any safety concerns! Just remember – it’s always good to start with small hikes to build up endurance and never travel alone! We’d love to hear about it afterwards! Blessings, Carin

  • Mark Roberts

Will try to register soon & plan to do my best to make it to the training. Sounds great !

  • William H Adams

    Nice prize–thanks for the opportunity.

  • robyn cobb

i’m in KY…hope you provide pics

  • Frank

Are there any army supply or wilderness supply stores David recommends in the area?

Do the A Frames have electricity to charge devices or do we need to bring solar chargers?

Will plates and cutlery be provided or should we plan on bringing those with us?

will we have to purify our own water or is clean water available?

    • Carin

Hi Frank, there are a few smaller outfitters/sport shops in the immediate area and an hour away there is a Gander Mountain store. The A-Frames do have electricity and plates and cutlery will indeed be provided with the meals. Clean water is also available. Feel free to ask any more questions you might have and we hope to see you there!

  • Ed

This is being done in a Christian retreat. Will there be any religious obligations or religious activities?

I’m not religious so I would rather know ahead of time.

    • Carin

David: Hi Ed – though I’m a Christian myself, there will not be any obligatory religious anything though there may be optional chapel time during free time when those who’d prefer to do anything else may certainly do so. Hope to see you there!

  • James

Need more notice. I would like to attend in the future. Maybe 3 months notice? Thanks.

  • Will

Hey I’m 14 and was wondering if I would need an adult to come with me.

    • Carin

Yes, Will, you would need an adult to accompany you.

  • Adrian

I would love to go tenting but I’m so far and burly have a enough gear and it would be cool to be there

  • Hello David/ Carin!

I’m really excited about your project, only I live in Toronto, Ontario Canada, is it possible to get more info such as location (at least approx) so I can plan my trip.
    Thank you !

    • Carin

Hi Rick – check your email for our approximate location.

  • Cj taishoff

Is there a age minimum to participate in this course

    • Carin

Yes, we would like for youth to be at least 14 if possible and accompanied by an adult. Maturity is just very important to have in the attendees to carry something like this off without needless distraction. Thanks for asking!

  • Richard

My son and I love your channel. During this event he will be just under fourteen since his birthday is in October. Could he still attend the event?

    • Carin

Glad you enjoy the channel! Check your email for our response.

  • Daniel

I got the approval for the days off!!! I’ll be signing up today!!!!!

  • Darius Day

    Hello Carin,

I am 14 years old, and live in Hawaii. I will not be able to come because of the distance, but I will be moving to Dallas in a few months. I am hoping that there will be another course next year, which I will most definitely try to attend.

If there is another course next year, I will be 15 years old. I am very mature, and am currently in Boy Scouts. Will I still have to have an adult accompany me if there is one next year?

    ~Darius Day

    • Carin

Yes, Darius, everyone that is under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Hope your move goes wonderfully for you!

      • Darius Day

      • Darius Day

        Hi Carin,

I have one more question. Since I am under-age, and I will need an adult watching over me, will that mean they will have to pay for themselves, too? Or will I just have to pay for myself for the camp?

        ~Darius Day

  • Brent

    David & Carin,
I recently registered for your training weekend. However, I’ve lost the link that gave me the address in Wellsboro and the list of essential items needed. Could you please send me that information.

  • Cliff Hamilton

Anybody headed to the training from North Georgia, East Tennessee or Virginia? Heading to the training and interested in doing a ride share for the trip if anyone is interested and on the way.

  • Eric Brush

Hi David and Carin me and my mom are interested in this training but currently am only 13 but I will be 14 in about a month and a half can I still participate or do I have to 14 at the time of registration.

    • Carin

Eric, if you will be 14 in a month and your mom feels you are mature and would benefit from the training and she is coming along -if you sign up very soon – you could certainly come! David will be removing the registration page soon. Blessings, Carin

  • Luke

Hey david, I’m fourteen and was wondering if I would need to have an adult with me. I would love to go, however my parents wouldn’t want to come. Thanks!

  • TC

    Hi David & Carin,

I appreciate all the videos, information sharing and product reviews on your website, YouTube Channel and CarbonTV. Thanks.

I am very interested in the upcoming Sept. 2015 Survival Camp. What are the suggested airports in the area to fly into from Tampa FL? Also, what are the travel suggestions from the airport to the camp? Apologies if I missed those details on site or in the comments.

  • TC

    Hi David & Carin,

I am very interested in attending the Sept 24th camp and I am researching my travel plans. Please advise on the closest/most appropriate airport to fly into from Tampa.

    • Carin

Hi there, TC! The closest airport to the camp is Elmira, NY. There is also a small airport in Williamsport, PA. We love the Elmira airport – so small and friendly! We look forward to having you join us!

  • R J

Hey Carin and David , my computer just burped so I am resending this e-mail . I would like very much to attend in September . However , I live on a shoestring budget . I don’t have $495. that I can send . What I can do is send $250. a month and then be paid up by the time class starts. Would this arrangement be OK ?

    R J

    • Carin

Hey there RJ – sent you an email…

  • StevenA

    Hi David,

I am wondering if you still have availability for this event before I book my tickets? Also, I emailed you.

    • Carin

Yes, indeed we do! Hope to see you here!

  • michael sapper

Will you be doing this again in the spring? I have to teach in the fall (Sept class), but I am done in April and would love to do a class in late spring/early summer of next year. Thanks for any information and thanks on all the great info over the years.

    • Carin

Can’t say for sure what next year will hold, but if we do another training in spring we’d sure love to see you there!

  • Dustin

What would be the best Airport to Fly into?

    • Carin

Elmira, NY regional airport makes the most sense.

  • Timothy Allen

Hey guys just signed up for your Sept. 24th class. I will be coming to you from Texas. Flying into Elmira, NY. Not sure if anyone else is going that route but was think maybe someone might want to ride share from there to your camp. Seems a shame to rent a car for 1hr drive there and then not use for 3 days than 1hr back to Airport. Is there other options in the area?

  • Walter (Roy) Hill

I live in Wellsboro. Am I required to stay at the tent site at night? I prefer to stay home at night.

    • Carin

You could certainly drive home each night! I do! (Carin)

  • Kane

Hello so i just thought that i wasnt going to be able to go to pennsylvania because i live in ohio so I go to a map to see how far it is away from my location and i was shocked that i didnt realise i lived close to pennsylvania so i’ll mention the training to my dad and hopefully he will like to come with me to learn some survival basics.

Ps. I am 14 years old.

    • Carin

Great! Hope you can join us!

  • Debbie Daugherty

I would love to go but can’t do so physically , I would love to learn new ideas.. I make paracord bracelets now and would love to incorporate within them things that could help a person be the best they can be..

  • Larry kephart

Love the videos and have learned alot. By chance have you started planning for 2017
