What school are we supporting with this campaign?
This Christmas, 10% of every Mini EDGE Elite Gift Box will help Champions Education Center, a small Christian school serving children in one of Nairobi’s poorest communities, Kiambiu slum in Kenya. The school gives kids from extremely low‑income families a safe place to learn, grow in their faith, and build skills that can help them break the cycle of poverty.

Who started the school and how do you know him?
The school was founded in 2015 by our friend John Mutisya, a trained engineer who left his career to become a pastor and launch this school so children in the slums could have a future filled with hope, education, and the gospel. My wife Carin and I have known John and personally supported his work for nearly 20 years, staying in regular contact and watching the school grow and impact many families. The school begin with just two volunteer teachers and 27 children. Today the school has 213 students, 9 teachers, 1 cook and a security guard to keep the children safe.

How does this school actually help kids get out of the slums?
Most of the students come from families that can’t afford schooling, or often food. Studies show that average income converted to USD is roughly $22-$37 per month in the slum. But through loving teachers, consistent discipleship, and focused academics, a significant number of graduates go on to high school, technical training, and even university. As they move into better opportunities, they are able to support their families and invest back into their community, creating real, generational change.

How much of my purchase goes to the school and what does it provide?
For this campaign, 10% of every Mini EDGE Elite Gift Box (roughly $12-$14 US per kit or 1/2 the average monthly income of a slum family) goes directly to John to support the school. Because of the currency exchange rate and lower local costs, each gift goes much, much further in Kenya than it would in the U.S. The money goes to pay teachers, provide basic school supplies, and ensure that every student receives at least one hearty meal per day.

Is this a trustworthy, long‑term partnership or just a one‑time donation?
This is a long‑term relationship, not a quick, one‑off project. Carin and I have walked with John and his team for about 20 years through prayer, regular financial support, and ongoing communication, so we know the names, faces, and stories behind this work. Our son Ben has traveled to Nairobi to work with John. When you buy one of these kits, you are joining that ongoing story and “paying it forward” to help bring lasting, generational change in a devastated part of the world (See photos of John and the kids below).
